Caught a Little Bit of Everything Today...

Today my little brother and I fished our neighbors pond and got into a few bluegill, crappies, and largemouth, but fishing was slow so we walked down to the North Fork of the Rivanna to see how the "migration" of the warmwater fish into the river was going, fallfish are the only species that winter over in it... My little brother was fishing a 3" white triple ripple grub and caught a baby smallmouth and lost a 15"er within 5 minutes of our arrival. I only caught a couple chubs and fallfish drifting a 1" gulp minnow. We moved downstream and he landed a nice redbreast among the steady stream of fallfish we were catching. I changed to a 2" white slider grub on a 1/32oz jighead and landed a beautiful redeye! He was probably 8" long, and the first one I have caught this year! I also ended up catching a few redbreasts before we headed back to the pond. We fished the "tailwater" pool below the pond, and caught over 25 green sunfish, a few bluegill, and one fish that was either a hybrid between species or a longear. We finished up at the ponds with a dozen or so more crappies, a few bluegill, and some bass. Quite the multi-species day, smallmouth, largemouth, black crappie, bluegill, redbreast sunfish, green sunfish, fallfish, river chubs, and redeye (rock bass)! Make sure to check out my fishing blog, Everything That Swims. Thanks for reading!

  "Greenie"

This one is actually from my backyard pond, but it is the same species (or hybrid) as the one I caught today, anybody know what it is?
