Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

This is not an advertisement.  Hey folks.  I wanted to get some advice from you members concerning starting a small business.  I have been hand pouring and injection molding my own panfish plastics for 11 years now.  I'm getting close to retirement age, (If the government will let me), and I was thinking about marketing my plastic baits.  Although I do hand-pour bass baits, I see more of them on the store shelves, than I do quality panfish baits.  I produce 1" and 11/2" curl-tail grubs, and sweet little 1 1/2" minnow and a 1 5/8" "paddle-tail" grub that resembles a Slider Grub, but again, it's hand-poured and is a different length so there is no infringement problems.  2 questions I have are: 1. Any ideas on marketing them, or do you think the market is overwhelmed with plastics?  2. What types of plastics do you folks use the most?  Let me know something when you can.  Thanks Nick.

Hi Larry,  I checked my sources and could not find a ribbon-tail 1 1/2" grub.  I can make a quality 1 1/2" curl-tail in yellow and I have white pearl and chartreuse in stock.  My other colors are chartrecuse/silver, bubblegum, black and white.  Again I can make any out of stock or hard to find color or color combination like black body and chartreuse tail.  Let me know if this helps any and welcome to BBG.com.  Nick  P.S.  I also pour the same colors in a one inch size.

Hi Nick, my favorite soft plastic WAS 1.5 inch ribbontail power grub(berkley)(usually white or yellow), can't find them anymore only the 2 inchers wich are too big. The BPS and other "small" grubs are not as effective, or, they won't last very long. I was going to get into poring myself, but, I don't have time. I don't know how to get them marketed other than maybe consignment at local( or otherwise) bait stores. pearl and chartreuse sound great, my two favorive colors. Good Luck. P.S. My biggest problem is poor plastic, not lasting very long. I looked for pouring supplies and found there are multiple kinds of plastic to choose from, have you found the "perfect" recipe?

Dick, Just got a notice that the plastic will be delivered today.  Again, I have the white pearl in stock (25 per bag) and should be able to whip out the chartreuse/pearl in no time.  Question is, how intense is the chartreuse?  Is enough to add color, or is it pretty heavy?  Let me know today if possible.  Don't forget to send me your mailing address.  I can quote you my price.  I don't normally charge for postage either.  Nick

Hello Dick,  I have the white pearl in stock and have just ordered a gallon of plastic that should be here by the weekend.  The twister tails come 25 to a bag, and making up pearl/chartreuse shouldn't be a problem at all.  Here is my e-mal address so  you can send me your mailing address: ultralite31907@yahoo.com.  I could sure use some tackle testers.  Nick

Nick if your looking for field testers I can help. All kidding aside it's getting harder and harder to find the twister tails I use. If you can make me up a batch to try if you can make what I need I'll be more than happy to pay you for them goodness knows I've got lots of bait that don't add up to my expectations. I need white pearl and chartreuse pearl 1 1/2 in twister tail. Here is the finicky part. I work my baits very slow and in doing so the tails are lifeless because most of the plastics are to hard. Once and awhile I find some that work well but it's getting few and far between. Let me know if you even would want to do it.

Does anyone else have a favorite color that's not out there any more?  Let me know.
