Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

New to fishing for blue gills. What are the habits of the blue gill? Anyother info on  blue gill fishing would be appreciated. We fish for crappies in the pad and deep water on a lake here in florida. What type of bait do you use?  Thanks for any info.....Gary

I lived in Florida for twenty years and used to fish the lakes and canals there all the time. I found two baits there that worked well and caught three species consistently, red wigglers, and crickets. They would catch anything but the target fishes were bluegill, cichlids, and tilapia. The bluegill could be found around weed lines, sticks, logs and brush, and at the mouth of a culvert pipe. Cichlids would school up in the sun in shallow pools, or hide in undergrowth along the banks, and the tilapia would hide out of the sun in shaded areas, especially under floating trash or scum where the wind or current had bunched it up. Another good bait is grass shrimp netted from under floating grasses on canal edges. Hope this helps.
