Thanks for the welcome Jeff..  Yeah that fish right there got me hooked for life.  Also my personal best at 11".  A monster for up here in northern Minnesota.  I caught it slip bobber fishing last spring. Around some flooded timber in 9' ft of water on a very clear lake (20+ ft visibility) in late May.  Water temps were probably upper 50's.  I got it back in the water after the pic.  Can you tell if its a female or male?  I figured it was a big male guarding a bed.

Taking a picture of the fish right after you catch it helps in the painting process.

Yes, I need the fish in order to make a mold to cast the replica. If you catch a worthy specimen handle it with care and freeze it in a sealed double plastic bag.

If it makes my list and is in good shape, it could be free.

I called "Bob's fishin hole" yesterday and they say oxygen levels are back up to normal and they are seeing crappie, bass and bream at the landing, but not in the usual numbers yet.

I am busy tomorrow but might get out there Thursday or Friday.  Might resort to minnows, I know a couple of holes that produce some really nice fliers if the water is cool enough.

Jeffrey, the fish in question is one of many we catch from the abyss of lake Geneva.....Starting in early August through mid Oct, we find them scattered on deep flats from 33-40ft deep, and the best way to target them is with 1/4 oz spoons tipped with waxworms.... fish exceeding 10" are not uncommon. Lake Geneva's maximum depth is 170 ft. and the water is gin clear.

I do, now if only I could catch a bluegill that size.............. My bass are up to 16" now, so they should start eating most of the little ones.

Hey Jeffrey...thanks for the upcoming info on NC rivers. But you don't have to be too detailed and indepth. Clearly, you are a regional expert on you waters. What I am looking for is 2 or 3 rivers that have good populations of 1/2 to 1 pound class gills and crackers and the basic techniques that would get a newcomer to the region on the fish. If you have a preferred month or season, then that would be cool. Also, any area bait and tackle store or reliable place for a fish report for the rivers would also be nice.

Thanks again for all your help. Jim

Jeffrey, thank you for the welcome and advice.  I do have plans to head to Moultrie, and I have been to Black's Fish Camp.  Good people there!  When I do get to Moultrie I'll post my success.

There can be some great fishing bluegill fishing around Williamston but it's a little different than fishing the rivers up you way. The roanoke can flow pretty fast at times making drifting along with the current the best option sometimes. There is a public boardwalk along the river at the boat ramp where may do fish for cats. I'm not much on bottom fishing so I'm not much help here. I'm fishing this week on the French broad river in Asheville. Work / fishing trip. These smallmouth bass can be very fun on the fly rod too. Taking me a couple of days to learn how to fish in this fast moving water. Have caught a few longears so far too. That makes me feel more at home. Hope I answered your question. Tight lines

We got 10 minutes of it. And, those were the 10 minutes we were trying to fix our shrimp pond and got soaked. Doesn't matter, it was welcome.

We live near Callendar lake, and although it's not putting out a drop into the creek below it, it doesn't seem down much either. I have heard that other lakes are down 5 ft or more.  I personally am very worried that my freshwater shrimp and bluegill pond are going to dry up. We have been pumping water from the creek, but as I said before, that is going down too. We are now pumping every other day, and the ponds are both shrinking. Not even so worried about the pond size as the amount of oxygen in the water. Know any Indians who remember the rain dance?

I live 6 miles from Jameville so that's were I spend most of my time. Plymouth is my second home on the water. Largest shell cracker I've ever caught. 2.8 lbs came from there. Maybe I'll see you down here on the river sometime.

Could be the beaver moved on as I haven't seen it since. Too bad, I was hoping it would stick around. Don't know why it would leave, we have the only creek water around for a mile at least.

Hope you and your friend have a blast! I lived in AZ for a couple years and sure don't miss the desert. What I do miss is canyon lakes like Lake Apache. Will be looking for the photos of the fishing trip with your friend. Would say good luck but know that you got it all under control.

Hi Jeff! My mom and dad (Dondra and Mike) are visiting me in Baton Rouge and we wanted to say hello. We enjoyed looking at all your pictures:) Too bad we don't live closer...with dad retired now, you'd have a permanent fishing buddy! Looking forward to seeing you all in September! Take care, Kelly
