The worse thing that has happened to me is when i was fishing at a pond i cast my hook and it hooked a girl by the neck across the lake. and i also caught a swan on a crankbait.
Probably not worst, but I deeply embedded a hook on a rattle trap into the back of my own head once. Took a friend several minutes with a pair of pliers to get it out.
I'm not sure its the worst day, but this past week has been pretty interesting. In 4 days of fishing I lost an anchor one day, the next day I lost a brand new Zebco 22 combo, then two days later I left my sunscreen in the truck and didnt go back for it, I spent the next two days not wearing regular shoes because the fop of my feet were so burned. Maybe I'll learn my lesson some day.
I changed popping bugs and was distracted by an osprey and thought my fly was in the water rather than a resting on high grass a few feet from my hand so I yanked hard to start a backcast and jerked it deep into my thumb. I mash my barbs down but this was one of those hooks with a thick barb so I could not jerk it out with line so after an hour's drive back to town and a three hour wait in the ER, a doctor used vise grips to drive it all the way through my thumb and out the other side afterwhich he clipped the barb and pulled it back through after giving me an injection in the thumb. Ouch! I also once jerked my wife's sunglasses off her face on a backcast(without touching her face) and I recall that was the last time she ever went fishing with me.
I fell outta the boat with my Iphone in my pocket a couple weeks ago! Yea that set me back 500 bucks and I lost a weeks worth of pics that I hadnt got a chance to sinch to the computer yet. And guess what that weeks worth of pics was....... My first bluegill trip of 2010!
Fishing for crappies a few years ago from a boat on a windy day my fishing buddy hooked me in the face on the cheek.. we first cut the line.. took the minnow off...then upon his examining the situation, declared " I think I can take it out" ! So he latched on to the hook with his hemostats with the words of grit your teeth and with a quick jerk the hook was removed safely without a chunk of flesh from me check, with the admonishment from my fishing buddy of "do not ever tell me wife about this". I promised not to say a word about this to her until the time comes for his funeral day. :)
