I have been catching these small sucker or chub like fish this year for the first time and dont know what species it is. They seem to like small artificials ,wormpieces and mealworms though. They came out of a small New Jersey brook and hang out with suckers ,chubs and stocked Trout.Any one know what it is?May 92 RB.jpg
I don't know the exact name, Common Shiner, seems accurate enough. It is a all grown up version of your any Bait Shop USA "crappie minnow" that someone released into your waters or it found its way there naturally. We catch them here in AL at a pond I fish bjgger than that. Best removed from yuor pond, cut up they make excellent catfish bait!
Bruce -I caught another of these little guys and i'm deciding you guys are correct ,it's a Common Shiner .I checked and their werE tubercules all over the face. This speciman wasn't blue like my wonderful catch that started this controversy but I believe it's the same fish.
Please thank your Pond Boss friends for me.
Thanks for the input Bruce! I am not 100% convinced this is a common shiner. Could be though! I didn't notice any tubercles. This fish is quite colorful whatever it is . It was about 5".I believe he hit a mealworm.
