Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

DOES ANY OF YOU SCIENTFIC ANGLERS KNOW HOW TO LOCATE UNDERWATER SPRINGS? I UNDERSTAND THAT WATER THAT COMES IN FROM THE SPRING IS A CERTAIN TEMPERATURE YEAR ROUND. SO, THIS MUST MEAN THAT FISH WILL STAY CLOSE TO THE WARMER INCOMING WATER. I DON'T KNOW IF THERE IS ANY WAY OF LOCATING A SPRING, OTHER THAN BY CHANCE.

Hey one way is there may be bubbles on the surface, if your wading there will be a sudden change in temp. Hope it helps!

Talk about over your head Mayo. I bet figuring out how to spell thingamabobbers made your head hurt. I tried to spell check it and was redirected to a neurosurgeon's site. It tried to set me up an appointment for brain surgery. I said no thanks, it ain't even my word.

The guy on the other site with all the answers sure sounds like the scientific type. He did say my first suggestion was a sure fire way. Underwater thermometer.

Mayo, the link to the spring finding discussion says springs have lower oxygen than the lake water. That's maybe why you don't catch anything there. It said find the first structure down flow from the spring. You may have to get out of the boat and into the water to tell which way its flowing. Popsicle Mayo! What a thought.

aight boogie man you can put this disscussion back into layman terms for me! whew that was way over my head! Gonna drink a beer and go to bed now. Get you one of those infered thingamabobbers and find the stream in broke mans lake for us to fish!

I googled finding springs and found this discussion on another website. Lots of info. Scroll down to read all the posts. Even a picture of a drawn down lake with a spring, right where a post said was a likely spot.

I agree with boogie man! I get my drankin water from a spring in stockton. Its rite on the side of the road and there are a ton of signs! Now for those in the water? Well being that the water temp only gets in the lower 50s here it makes it harder to find in the winter for us. Summer time you can locate the springs by the clear water and the much lower temps! Funny thing is we never catch anything off of them. Have much better luck fishing the thermo line its a lot easier to find!

ken-i am no scientist but one of the main reasons i fish is to observe nature and to and be continually outsmarted by fish.this is the best time of year to look for springs as it will be the first place to thaw often times.as the ice melts look for open water in unusual areas.this could show a spring or other area where warmer water enters.please please try and observe this from shore.if there are springs there ice thickness can be quite thin and you could go through without warning.if you go out on the ice please dont go alone and take all precautions.

I dove into a spring in Florida one time. They had to rescue me. I was a popsicle. Cold ain't the word. It didn't seem to bother them big ole gills swimmin' around it though. To locate it, I just followed the signs out on the highway. For ones in a lake, I aint got a clue. An underwater thermometer maybe if you got some idea where to start.
