Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

I just wanted to show you guy's my Carp that I have caught in my 2yrs of fishing for them. Some of these Carp I waited for 5hrs from peck to set hook. Carp are nowhere near dumb like everyone think's this Fish are very smart they will shy away from a hook in a second. I don't have many Carp under my belt but I did do pretty good in just 2yrs. I have caught a total of 25 carp and missed 30, some picture's I'am not able to find. I was using a Bread dipped in honey I would take the end's off and use the whole inner piece but that's how I prefer doing it.

You got some real horses there, Angelo. They really are more cautious than most people give them credit for. Congratulations on your catches.

Nice job!

Fly fishing for river koi (Japanese carp) is popular in Japan, I saw a number of people doing it in the river near where I lived there. With dry flies, no less! A commonly used fly is apparently made to imitate a piece of bread - it's a big, bushy floating white thing. I wasn't close enough to see what it was made from.

Hey Angelo...in a lifetime of fishing I have caught at least a dozen carp on lures, fish that actually struck the lure. Mostly jigs, but some on small spinners and shad darts. Great fun!

That is one mission I must accomplish catching a Carp on a fly. But my lakes the carp don't seem to near the shallow's at all, I will see the mud picking up in the distance but don't have a boat so it's almost impossible It would be one great fight tho. Only one time I hooked a 5-lb carp on 4-lb mono line and the rod was 4'6'' I fought that little carp for an hour before finally spitting the hook right before I was able to grab him. Jim Cosgrove with the bread and honey I use Wal-mart brand I don't know why but they seem to like alot more than other brands well here in Jersey. Jim Gronaw I heard of Grass Carp hitting lures and some jig's, even common carp! I never had that happend to me before.

they are blast-and fight as hard as any muskie.they sip little things off the surface like a trout.i made some flies to imitate the cotton wood pods but they gave it a pass.have to sight fish for em but if it is calm you can usually see them or the bubbles where they rooting around.common carp seem to be a bait situation.gonna try the bread and honey.we used to use flour wheaties cattails and vanilla extract.never did anygood on the commercial dough.

I hear the grass carp are sensational fighters! I have only hooked one in my life, and it was snagged in the tail on a 1/32 oz green jig and 4 lb test. Fought the fish for a good 45 minutes then the hook pulled out. Might've been a 20.

nice pics-i am still trying to get more carp on the fly rod.a club lake i fish has giant grass carp used for vegetation control-i am not lying some over 40 lbs.we are not supposed to fish for them as they are sterile and were expensive.2 years ago i was out bass fishing from shore had an 8 wt rod, early spring.choke cherry trees were dropping these pods.i saw something sipping these pods off the surface.picked some pods up found a size 8 fly and stripped every thing off the hook and threaded a couple pods on.only could have done this with a fly rod.got it right in front of these fish, this was in quiet corner 3 feet deep.well an hour later i got this thing banked,no camera of course.i have caught some big fish before but nothing like this.his tail was almost a foot wide.was 35- 40 pounds easy.what a fight .have only gotten some small ones since.little 10 pounders.LOL

FSM stands for 'fully scaled mirror' carp.

Comment by Angelo C Mastrando Jr. on June 13, 2012 at 8:44pm

I thought it was a mirror carp but I alway's thought that they were only in Europe and Morocco region's (Mirror carp). I have try the hair rig's and I never had luck with them I missed 2 on those rigs. I have saw many video on youtube on European carp fishing, They use a little bit too much technology. I don't like the bite alarm's they have it takes the fun out of it fishing for these guy's. Pineapple chunks? They do eat a variety of things you got that right. Thinking about going carp fishing this week since the weather is all whacked right now. Btw what's FSM?

By the way, your third from the last photo is what is known as a 'fully scaled mirror carp'...a rare catch in most regions. I have caught but one FSM, but it was about 17 pounds, from the Potomac River. Great fish!
