Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

Ok ok OK I know another Kiwanis post right ? But I'm only a two minute drive away lol

Anyways. I took my now sizable panfish / light duty pack box and medium light with 4lb crappie max green high vis and hit the group of mini boulders in 4 ft of water with a slip bobber and black beetle jig with white jig head . Lots of nibbles no definitive strikes. Put a 1/64 ounce black and yellow panfish drop jig with same bobber over the weed line next to the rocks.....wiggle....sit.....long pause.....wiggle....bobber slowly submerges....light set thinkin crappie or gill....nope 2-3 lb class largemouth aaaaand...... 1/2 foot away from my hand plop.....sigh....jig falls outa the fishes mouth... Fun tho and kids kept coming to me asking why I spent two hours in the same area. We all know changing things up after 10-20 minute periods can bring results and with the weeds in full growth there buried in them all over the lake. Fun time it was tho. Tomorrow tempe town lake to see and scout. Never fished it but heard good things. Saturday on the morning of my 42 year of existence I will get up at 5 and go to saguaro and scout the docks and shore fish for Shellies and crappie and by then I'll have a new panfish kit as well. Maybe a 136 PC . Not sure will go to bass pro n look. May just piece my own new one together. I mean a 12 pack of the 1/64 jigs is 6 bucks and I have 40 rooster tails now compliments of eBay. Yeap definitely back in it now and my non outdoors wife fully supports my pastime.

Sidenote : took my two teens to the lower salt at Phon d sutton Saturday. Despite the crappy line on my oldests spinning combo we still had a great time. Can't wait to get em on grandpas pontoon soon

I'm always open to suggestions ☺️ I've been absent due to life but I have been doing tons of panfishing and now have a great line up of tackle and I resumed making my own weighted and non weighted ant and worm flies. I'm also friends with Jigmiester on facebook. David is a good solid man and makes supremely realistic hand poured and molded panfish jigs in many sizes.
We plan on me going in spring/ summer transition for crappie and shell crackers
