Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

Greatest underwater bluegill video of all time!

I'm not kidding.

I decided to use my creative side yesterday. I took some bailing wire, and bent it in a semi-circle so that it dangled right out in front of my Aquavue camera, which incidentally looks just like a bluegill.

Then I tied a short little piece of monofilament to the end of the wire, attached a severely overbent hook so as not to injure any fish, and added a big chunk of nightcrawler.

Wacky hijinx ensued.

Bluegill came out of everywhere to bang away on the poor piece of crawler.

But what was really amazing, is the way that they attacked it--virtually always choosing to grab the free end, and pull, which explains why I miss so many fish.

I'd be really interested in anybody's comments in regards to what we're really learning here.

I think there are some valuable lessons for the fisherman.

Enjoy.

I've been planning a fishing test where I offer two baits on a tandem rig. One side would be a small worm and the other side a black soldier fly larvae.

Maybe soon...

I think it would be very interesting to use some different type baits in the same time frame, and see how the BG's react and attack it. I would be curious to see what they would do for crickets or small minnows or even some of the flavored artificial baits like "gulp". Awesome video by the way!!

Graphically demonstrates why I have better luck using redworms than nightcrawlers.

Mmmm.. Interesting question. They seemed to adapt to the presence of the camera pretty readily. You saw where they try to stare it down. That would be incredibly cool.

Neat Bruce!

Do you think you could get one of your bluegill to spawn with that camera?
