Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

Hey guys I'm new here just signed up tonight. I've been lookin at this site for a while now and love readin about other peoples techniques. But anyway I have a question about line.I use spinning reels and have been havin a problem with birdsnesting and spoolin loosely and it just drives me crazy, and I was just wonderin what kind of line y'all use.I don't know if I'll be able to prevent it by just changin line but if I could at least minimize it that would be awesome.

4 lb Trilene xt treats me well. I like the abrasion resistance and the green color disappears below the water. Yozuri Hybrid is one I've been trying lately and it seems to be a little more sensative.

Well Keith I'm gonna have to double check and be sure I'm spoolin it right next time, I'm not sure.

Patrick,

Lisa and I have been using the Power Pro lines for quite a while now and really like them. For Bluegills and other Sunfish, we use the three pound test microline. For bigger fish like bass we use the 10 pound test. Even at that strength, it is still VERY thin.

I have never used anything except the green and have never had any trouble with it in normal colored water. For super clear water, I add about 18 inches of 5X or 6X flyfishing tippet.

Here is a link to some info: http://www.powerpro.com/publish/content/global_fish/en/us/power_pro...

Like I said, we really like the stuff. Just as a tip, are you spooling-up your reel from the correct side of the new line spool? It can make a BIG difference. Just a thought.

Keith

Well I appreciate the feedback, but John I can't find one of those twist outs I guess they quit making them.Jim, who makes triple fish I've never heard of it and can't find it on bass pros website and that sounds like some awesome line.I'm using 4 pound trilene xt right now but really want something with better quality.I wouldn't mind usin a 2 pound line as long as it's plenty tough enough so that I'm not snappin it all the time when I get hung up, I'm not too worried about the size of the fish cause of course I primarily bluegill fish and where I live I've never even seen a 2 pounder.

Fishing line is a place where you simply can not cut corners...in other words, you get what you pay for.

Personally, I have been using Triple Fish in camo and at 2 lb test for it's great limpness and sensitivity. I have landed some quality fish on it while panfishing with hairjigs to include bass to almost 6 lbs and pickerel to 25 inches.

I also like Trout Magnets SOS mono in 2 lb clear for many panfishing applications. This is a tough line, actually made by those who make Sufix lines, and a good all around thread for most panfishing applications.

Of course, quality 4 lb lines like Sensation, Trilene or Fire Line Crystal in 6 lb are very versatile as well.

I try to recall to do this before or after every time I fish .Saves me money on line.Dont end up cursing as much too. LOL!

I've had considerably less proplems with tangled line by taking out the memory coils with a TWIST OUT .Its a rubber device with a thumb screw and a line slit. You attach it just out side your tip top line guide after casting out a good length of line . Adjusting  the proper pressure takes time but its a cinch to get down .I wish I had a link for you but here's a picture of mine .I bought it a long time ago through Bass Pro Shops I believe. Hope this helps you.
