This morning when I got in around 7:30 it read 42; exactly half that.

In the interest of full disclosure - it is at the front of a black top parking lot in front of a highly reflective building. In the summer we get a lot of people pulling in to take pictures when it says 100+ when the local temps are in the 90s. It isn't wrong; it really is the temperature at that spot, but it was probably 8 degrees cooler behind the building in the shade.
