Jeffrey, kind of hard to tell but that looks like a northern strain. Have you got into any coppernoses yet? Just testing that theory that coppernoses need warmer water to wake up!

Thanks Tony....we are heading in the right direction weather wise......When March comes in like a lamb it usually means good things for our Bluegill year!

Excellent catch and beautiful fish!

You're right, Jeffrey! Even up here around the Mason Dixon Line, two days ago, we had insect hatches coming off in February and gills were taking them off the surface! Unbelievable!

Clearly, this record warm winter has put an early start to what could be a banner panfish year. I am getting some reports of sensational, pre-spawn crappie fishing already in the region.

Keep up the good work!

I wish I had somebody with me to enjoy the action David....I released all the fish this afternoon and quit taking Bump Board shots so I could keep a bait on these Gills....Today's warm up had thousands of insects out and the last hour was incredible for early March...

I am so jealous,  it was 43 degrees up here in Yankee land.  Is that a crappie nibble I see on the hook?  I won' get to really fish until May.

This afternoon's Gills were crushing the Gulp Chartreuse 1 inch minnow by Berkley tipped with a Live Cricket........What a Blast!

March came in like a Lamb and we got out this afternoon and were rewarded! Short trip but one of the earliest mess of Gills for me in North Carolina in the last seven years.
