A lot of fish names are often used interchangeably by people especially when it comes to Warmouth, Goggleye, Rock Bass, and Shadow bass. However here's a good pic of the fish that's scientifically recognized as the Rock Bass.
They are often a bit greener than this one, but I've seen some that actually take on a more brownish or grey color.
One of the closest relatives of the rock bass and the most difficult to distinguish is whats scientifically known as the shadow bass. If you look at my albums I have a picture of a actual shadow bass (often locally called a goggleye). You'll see its very similar to the Rock Bass, but its the southern cousin with a few differences. You'll also hear a lot people refer to green sunfish as warmouth, but there are some pretty distinguishable characteristics when you see enough of them. Most warmouth will have the tiny red outline on their ear like a pumpkinseed or redear, but the pattern and color on their body can vary quite a bit depending on the region.
