Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

I can occasionally scoop these Grass Shrimp with a scoop net and panfish suck them down......When you scoop them you put them in ice water and it firms them up to thread on the hook......hook set ratio is very high!

In many instances, grass shrimp are almost transparent Nick. It must not be a problem for the fish though because they tear them up...I went on the Tchefuncte River in Louisiana one day in the late 70's with my Uncle Kenny for my introduction....over 100 Sacalait and Bluegill convinced me.......Lots of time the only reason you know you have them in the net is from glowing eyes.....

That's a great shot Jeffrey.  Is there any coloration to them, or is that the way the shot shows them?  I've never personally run across any here in Ga.  Nick Holt

I believe Yellow Perch spit these up when caught sometimes too.

Grass shrimp are a favorite, yet often overlooked bait and tipping option for panfish of all kinds. I tie hairjig patterns to imitate them and they are deadly on many species.

Grass shrimp are one of a big Bluegill grower's best friends........ natural forage, buffet style.

Those little snails you see also work...normally they are attached to other debris when scooped up.......
