Great info - I very much appreciate the feedback. I got some more hooks today, and an idea for another pattern... but meanwhile I'll get the next round started this week.
Yeah....#8 right now with the water temps in the mid 30s......I haven't been patient enough to try untipped yet in these winter conditions.....I believe it will get struck without tipping in warmer waters.....these baits will catch fish here.....look forward to using the #6 this Spring......
#8 then. So your confidence level is growing on these?
Have you tried them without bait tipping?
Fourteen gills on the bug bottom center today in stained water tipped with a live cricket.......If they're working now David it will do nothing but get better as we warm up in the coming months......
The nice about a softer hook is you can bend it back. If it gets snagged, a pull on the line will pull it away. A quick swipe of the hone, a tweak with the pliers and you're back in business.
I also pinched down the barb, which helps both with unsnagging and unhooking fish.
There is always the chance some whopper will straighten out the hook. But, that is a fish you were unlikely to land, anyway, when fit out lightly for panfish.
It was fine David, ready to go fishing again.....hook opened up a little but not enough to prevent hook set.......but that's why I like #6's as we have discussed........this patterns have several upsides for sure......
Great to hear, Jeffrey! Im glad the the thing hung together for a dozen fish - -
Tooty - these beads have a silver inner core. Anything on the hook would not show through. You can get 6/0 beads that are transparent - I have some in other colors. I didnt have any in pink, though, but these.
The one bottom center caught a dozen gills today tipped with grass shrimp and fished deep in stained 45-49 degree surface temperatures,,,,,,,,
Well you get an A for effort!
Kind words David, but I know when I'm out of my league! I'll leave the artistry to you and the rest of the experts on here.......I'm content to admire it from afar, especially since I don't understand half of the terms you guys toss around!
