Thanks John....likewise here when you locate a downed willow, fish it.......they are very productive and pretty forgiving on snagging.......they normally last a couple years before breaking down but the location can still produce fish even after the tree settles or gets displaced...........Good advice John!

Great description of the guarding zone Jeffrey . Around here, willow tree blow downs are a key . Any tree

branches that were taken by  the wind and fell in the water actually .

Thanks Carl, I have never known anyone that puts the time in that I have ......a big key to this particular river is knowing the under water picture and depth is only one part of that......the great thing about downed cypress or their stumps is that it stays around forever.....Miles and miles of this river system look identical to the eye but I have located key sturctures that produce fish every single year almost to the day......many of which are not visible in passing.....these tidal crappie deposit their eggs and they attach to this wood and guard with envy.....you can fish a mere two to three feet off the wood and the aggressive fish will hold their position........drop it directly adjacent or into the wood and your bait has now entered the combat zone and will be eliminated with extreme prejudice by the attentive fish.......
