Do you love big bluegill?
A mix of fathead minnows.......this year's grass shrimp fry and tiny sunfish......dozens of grass shrimp in every scoop.....got about 500 aerating for upcoming trips......each is an opportunity to catch a fish....no matter how small they appear........

I don't think it is illegal here but there are a couple of places it should have been (yeah, too late now). That is an oft cited reason that the white perch have made such inroads into Piedmont lakes up past the point they used to be in the rivers. There is a boat ramp on the Cape Fear less than 5 miles from one on Harris and when the bait is deep in Harris some people net in the river instead and then fish Harris, dumping their buckets when done.
wish i could net baby craws like that.we use a seining net walking upstream and a 3rd person flipping rocks and stirring things up.i believe it is now illegal to catch bait in one BOW and use it in another even tho the dnr does it all the time
Here's a net shot of a fertile pond I visit often......the minnows and baby gills are a good reference to the grass shrimp size......
Tells me where to park the canoe. Hang over the side in the grasses and dip it in - - -
Yes....all the various creatures seek shelter from the predators in these weed beds.....
Only thing that we can control is our effort......but give me a bucket of grass shrimp and one of my favorite bluegill holes and I'll display unmatched confidence......and normally catch a few nice panfish.....I've been employing two things the longest in my fishing lifetime......long poles and grass shrimp.....two distinct childhood memories of my early gill fishing in southern Louisiana.......
This is one of the greatest tipping baits of all-time...a 'back east' favorite.
wow nice bait
