Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

But it ate a worm under a float I'd just thrown to bream. A gentle nibble, and then I set the hook on what felt like a rock... until it moved! A twenty minute battle on 6lb test. My little bream rod is a CHAMP!

I really wish I could have video taped the fight too, because I NEVER thought I'd actually get it out of the water. I was SCREAMING for someone to come out of the house and watch: my little spinner was bent to the max, my arm was fully extended to absorb some of the fight, and my little Penn reel was SINGING. Fortunately, I'd caught a big dip net off the bottom about 50 foot from the pier a half hour earlier. Turns out it ended up in the lake after a visiting grandson of my host lured a monster carp up with bread and tried to scoop it. When the carp was worn out, I grabbed the net and the story became a complete circle. The net now hangs back on its nail in the boat house, and the carp is swimming free. There are some MONSTERS in this lake, which has no alligators or gar to thin them out. I'm going to fix up my steelhead rod [12ft med action 12-20lb] and fish for them with boiled deer corn [soaked in wheat grass juice and corn syrup] some day soon. I'll try to find a video camera. I saw one mucking its way by the pier that HAD to weigh 60-70 pounds. I'll go with 12lb test, and NEW drag washers in my Penn 7500ss. After the carp, that rod will be prime for launching Rapalas at distant cover. It can send half the reel out on a good cast.

Wow! One of the ponds I fish has some monster grassies in it. I'm going to try my best to catch one.
