I'm no biologist, but I think Walt is right...that fish does look alot like the magnum hybs we catch in some central Maryland ponds. Greenies have huge mouths compared to other sunfish species. Check out these pics of an 11 inch greenie I got a few weeks ago...

That fish looks more like a hybrid bluegill, i.e. green sunfish-bluegill cross, to me. The mouth is too small for a green sunfish, which have mouths almost as large proportionate to their bodies as largemouth bass; and, its body is too compressiform, too rounded like a bluegill, whereas green sunfish have a very elongated body shape, again like a largemouth.

Gorgeous monster sunfish of a lifetime!!!! Congrats to the lucky angler!!! Thanks for sharing this photo, Mountain Man, it serves for inspiration to all of us!!!! Jared's exactly right by the way, as the Green Sunfish typically has one of the largest mouths of all the sunfish and can eat much larger baits than most other sunfish (except the Crappie, ha! ha!)

I didnt actually catch this fish i posted it because Jim Gronaw's hybrid picture looks vert similar to this green sunfish and it makes me wonder of that fish is a greenie or a mix like 90%- 10%
