Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

Most of us have seen a good old-fashioned Japanese monster flick, right?
Who doesn't love "Mothra," "Rodan," and of course, "Godzilla."
We as fly anglers have probably also seen and used another classic, the foam spider.
So, what if we combined the two ideas?
I present to you, the "Tokyo Spider."

Member Billy Jackson first mentioned this pattern to me, so I looked it up.
Its not your average foam bug:

1. Its BIG.
These are size 4 and 6 - its gonna take a good sized fish to chomp these.

2. The rear foam body segment isn't tied down.
This means the hook rides low beneath the surface.

3. The "disturbance factor" is high.
These move a lot of water.

You should fish them right in tight to wood, rock and weeds and don't hurry them. Let them sit, with the occasional twitch and pop. How long to let them sit? According to the instructions, "...don't let the hook rust."

I'd also think they'd make excellent "floats" for dropper nymphs or soft hackle flies.

Warm water bass and large bluegill are their intended targets, although I see no reason why trout and other predators wouldn't be attracted. The legs are cut full body length, to add lotsa movement.

Save em for late spring and early summer. When the air temps reach 70° and you start seeing large beetles and such, tie on one of these and have fun!

The waters have receded, but damage everywhere.
Houses gone, bridges gone, 9 dead.

I hope everything is alright in the SC. I like these big spiders Scruff,  I caught my biggest bass on a fly rod a few weeks ago with a big foam grasshopper  tied by Dick Tabbert (see my photos).  These should do very well for you. Good to hear from you again and keep your powder dry if that is possible.
