You bet David.......I lived close to Francis Marion National Forest in South Carolina and caught many grass shrimp in the scattered ponds throughout that region.......

These particular ponds were dug years ago and simply serve as retention ponds that have an abundance of cattails and reeds as well as floating mat grass,,,,,,,,

lots of trees on one side that provide for a shallow blanket of leaf liter and pine straw.....

In this environment I just take a scoop net and collect the litter and go through plucking the shrimp from it and putting them in an aerated bucket......

This year's hatch is abundant and roughly an inch long right now which is a delicacy to any panfish.........I have always lived in the South and grass shrimp have been readily available David.......It doesn't take long to find out and any water that supports little crayfish will also likely hold an abundance  of grass shrimp........cover is a must.......weeds and leaf liter will make these guys more easily accessible.....many places these tiny shrimp call home are too hard to harvest.......the matted grass is too heavy to penetrate or pick up with a net.......

I can think of one boggy spot that is a possibility. Sometimes its a bonafide pond, at others its just a few inches of water. But its worth stopping to look, and poke around the edges.

Ill have to keep my eye out for something else. There are a lot of ponds around that might work; retention ponds are all over if you look.  Many are fenced, but not all.

Thanks for the tips!
