I like working them up with fast retrieves and or long quick sweeps through the water because they bang it good and hard sometimes .

They are a tough fish for sure Carl!Maligned  for their abundance that affects survival of other fish though . I still like them. They are really a Bass family member ,but I've never understood that classification. When caught they puff out their Gill cheeks like Yellow Perch to prevent swallowing from predators and if you rub the scales from tail to head  they have  a sandpaper feel just like a Yellow Perch as well !
