David, you're like me.  You can almost put yourself in the photo.  Ah, how their lives were about to change...innocence lost.

Jeff you nailed it - these electronic tools we have today are awe inspiring. And Bruce, next time I go past an old dock I will certainly try to conjure the images of fishing trips, now passed.....

Personally, I was captivated by the date - Sept 14, 1941.

In just a few short weeks from this fishing trip, the US would be plunged into one of the most costly and significant wars she had ever seen.... WWII.

Indeed the war itself was already two years old when this fishing trip occurred. I wonder if the young men in this pic (your grandad included) considered that this may be their last fishing trip....

Fishing and all of its memories make it great to reminisce! No matter where I'm at I think back and remember great fishing times...Its part of our make up as fishermen and look how many folks get to share their testimony as members of bigbluegill.com. I love the fact that LedHed can catch a LP bruiser this afternoon and will share his experience and photo with us within hours on this site and thats awesome. Living in the South, I would not have any exposure to Ice Fishing but my Northern counterparts share and thats cool...One of the many blessings we receive as anglers....

I drove right past this dock a couple of weeks ago.  I thought of this picture...and my Grandfather.

It is, indeed, the guy on the right in white.

The guy in white on the right behind the front guy,or maybe the guy in the middle in white.

Cool Picture! I 'll take a S.W.A.G. and say the guy holding the fish is Gramps?
