Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

This fellow bass fisherman caught this giant Coppernose BG at California's Diamond Valley Lake. He never weighed or measured it before releasing it! It may have been a new lake record Bluegill! Any guesses as to it's weight?

Well Walt, laid across the markings on my Caddis float tube, the larger one was just a hair over the 12 inch mark and the other one was 11 inches. Another one of about 10 inches that I just caught pulled my little rod right off of my tube when I set it down while unzipping a compartment for some needlenose pliers. I left the BG in the water (still on the hook) rather than have him flopping around and messing up my sandwich that I was eating at the time. Hey do those water proof cameras take decent photos? We have a really nice Cannon, but my wife won't let me take it out on my float tube.

No Walt, I have not been down to DVL lately. I have been fishing mostly at Lake Perris, where I still think there are fish over 4 pounds.... I got a couple of really big ones there recently, but did not have my digital camera with me on my float tube to take any photos.

Well I sent him a message to join us here. I do know that the Diamond Valley Lake record BG is 3.06 lbs (caught back in 2007) and that he saw the photo of it at the marina after he released his fish and thought his looked larger...

Bet he was more proud of that fish than anything he caught that day for sure. What a story to tell

I'm going to try and get this fisherman to join us on this website and we'll get all the info first hand.

I would have to say well shy of 2 lbs....and here's why,....this fish is being presented on outstretched arms, and when known size comparisons are taken from the same depth of field (fingers) this fish would tape at about 11 inches...Being female and lacking the huge helmut and almost vertical breast plate features of her male counterpart, I would say 1 and 3/4 lbs....Without a doubt this is a great fish, and more importantly, she was released.
