Snapping Turtle

Snapping Turtle .(Chelydra serpentina) Largest Freshwater Turtle. Can be found statewide in NJ . When the neck was poked out it was thicker than my wrist .Awosting NJ. .Pulled over in the Truck on East Shore Road coming back from fishing .I had to take a pic.

Comment by John Sheehan on June 9, 2016 at 2:38pm: Saw a bunch of Eastern Painted Turtles and one Eastern Musk Turtle while fishing with Greg today . Fishing was real tough , we picked the worst day with high winds and a cold front but it was our Thursday fishing day .One dink Pickerel on of course a spinner-bait over the weedy flats.

Comment by John Sheehan on June 8, 2016 at 6:42am: I talked with a guy at the Sally's field Pow Wow one year and he said there were seven cuts of meat on a snapping Turtle .I assume he meant the four legs, tail, neck and what is under the shell. I've never eaten snapping Turtle but have to admit I am curious how it tastes.
