The smallies were "really" accomodating on my 5 days up in the Voyageurs Greg.....I'm guessing I caught 50 or so in those days releasing 95% of them and keeping only a couple for those shore lunches....My "technique" was to cast a 5" floating Rapala up against the rocks and even hit the rocks and let it fall into the calm waters......the smallies would hit it almost immediately !...to the point where almost every third or 4th cast would create a "swirl or hit!....many would hit the rapala and many would miss it!.....The nearest "launch" area was south 9 miles away on Crane Lake....no roads in this area!.....Just a beautiful place!.....thousands of acres of fishable waters....miles of fishable shoreline!....Crane Lake,Sandpoint Lake,Namakan Lake,Lac La Croix...the list goes on and on.....and then there's the Canadian side of course....hundreds of small mouth lakes.....Yes it is a "very" big place!
Love catching Smallies on topwater! Looks like you had a blast!
Is there a public launch near where you fished. I've been wanting to go up there, but don't know too much about the area, other than a few articles I've read. Any suggestions or tips on where to go? It's a BIG place.
