guys-- I use a slingshot replacement band!!  its surgical tubing;; cut in 1/2 inch length.  for me; it works better.  marion;; run  your line thru the rubber band first;; then thru the loop on the quill; tie on your fly; hook; or jig;;   then just slip the rubber band   on the quill!!  that's all there is to it!

Wow! Small rubber bands or maybe little O-rings to slide them on?

Carl, tell me about these.  What are they made from?  How are they attached?

Mark, that is just a personal preference decision ,all lengths have merit in their different ways, but still I say  " Any Quill  is better than no quill,  when you need a strike indicator."    LOFR

Hi what is the ideal length of the Quill.

And David is right , longer quills are a little harder to deal with using casting, spinning, and ultra lite gear, but I use them on a fly rod, I have been known to use them with a minnow crappie fishing, you would be surprised how just a live minnow will make those thing tattle.  LOFR

Ah ha ,for use with Flyrod ! Now where did I put those quills!

I like them a bit shorter when they must be cast over any distance. If casting is not crucial or is ket short, then longer is fine. Mine are right at 4", which is a good intermediate length.
