any one ever get their own ice bait.i mean golden rod worms, wasp and yellow jacket larvae ,i think there is a wild daisey or black eyed susan that hosts a small grub in the dead stems.remember my great gramps who lived on the kankakee river showing me this stuff 40 years ago.digging worms or his invention,a golf shaft wired to an extension cord.soak the ground stick the metal shaft in the ground plug it in and the worms shoot out of the ground.seining minnows and crayfish.flipping rocks for hellgramites,i still fear those pinchers.

those are nice tony, not weighted?i see your dilemma staying in contact with your bait, those would look good with a colored eurolarve or spike.

Thanks Jim. Supposedly, the ticket is to fish these plain...no protein needed. But, that's while ice fishing, with a completely vertical presentation, and the action imparted by the angler him/herself. The standard rig is to use a split shot about 2' above the hook, just to get them to depth....then the midge will free fall the rest of the way in a more likelike manner. Not sure how you're supposed to register a take on such a small jig while in free fall, but maybe so.

My plan, is to use these on a modified drop shot rig during open water periods. I'll tie on a tungsten horizontal tipped with spikes as the bottom finder, and display the midge a couple of feet above that, and hang the entire thing below a slip float. Since my ice is gone, I may get the chance sooner than I had thought.

Tony...we used some on #14's yesterday and got some smallish gills and crappie in 40 degree water. Tipped with wax worms.

They're labeled as size 18.

Me tie these Tooty?? I wouldn't know where to begin. I'll leave this stuff to the pros like we have here at BBG. I'm sure some on this site could do it, but not this boy!
