WELL AS FOR SELLING OFF MY STORE OF MATERIALS I still have more than  enough to take me to the end fellas. Just too much of it here is all .
There is one way to make a profit David, sell a pattern of bug ........ the other way is word of mouth and on the water when folk are watching you catch fish and they have none, that works every single time........

good david, when you truly enjoy something turning it into a job sometimes ruins it.got a buddy is great bass fisherman.got close to making it to the big time .won boats and money, had sponsers.ruinedhis home life.went from fishing every day to barely ever.if your fast and good you should be able to make at least a buck a fly.finding customers is the trick.guy that owned the only real flyshop around chicgo tied a dozen doze a day plus ran his shop and had tieing and casting lessons.went under after 25 during the recession.just not much interest in my area.the county i live has 5 million people

I'm with you, Jim. I'm not seeing the actual TYING of flies for sale on ebay as the way to making money. At best, it MIGHT pay for the effort. But bonafide profit is not to be found in abundance that way. Hell, if it were Tooty wouldnt be selling off his store of materials!

I suspect there IS a way to make at least a paying profit, although not likely a mortgage lifting one. I can't tell you I know that for sure, not just yet. That is still in the realm of theory and Guerrilla Marketing. I'll not say more about that, for now.

But I'm sure of one thing: you can't accomplish it doing what everyone else is doing.

For now, Im not after a profit. That is just a possibility. What I'm after is just a tidy hobby where I can spend my time.

nice flies david, ebay is an option but it is tough, lots of good tyers and you got the chinese companies selling flies for less than the hooks cost.craiglist or local bait stores on consignment might be worth a shot.i would talk to tooty.he cant seem to keep up with demand.my professional tying is on hold indefinately not many flyfishers locally so ebay was my only option..i figure after materials, postage, going to the post office i make less than minimum wage.my hands are wrecked from 3o yrs of construction work also.

Joe, my wife is after me to sell em on Ebay. I've done a lot of trading there in the past, but have not seen really "stimulating" trade being done in flies.
I think I've pondered up a way to break through that, so its a possibility.
Right now, I'm still getting my "sea legs" under me.

I war thinking Spring myself, Fuzzy.
Small, dainty and first appearance "nymphy."
Later, on a sinking line, around weed edges, deep cover structure, ripple lines, etc.
My guess is, even in winter these might draw a small bite, since they are designed to sink slow and easy.

McScruff, just wait (if you can) until Spring, and give these bugs a whirl.  I'd be willing to bet a dollar that you're going to be catching fish like there's no tomorrow.  And who knows, maybe some other locals will see, and they'll want to buy some off you.
