Another Pound Of Copper......Big Ones Are Becoming More Active As Spring Advances

This fish was my favorite this morning......right at 10.25 and just a frisbee............I caught this toad on an olive Gronaw Grass Shrimp with a live shrimp threaded on for protein.........

Me and my Navy buddy fished Back Bay in the late 60's-early 70's.....Great fishing. We fished it so much the local game warren knew us by name. We had a 7 1/2 HP outboard and rented a boat. I also cleaned a Bass that had a (still-alive) snake in his stomach.....just a water snake but it made me jump 3 feet. The snake was really messed up but moving......I cut his head off with my filet knife. We were camping on an island and I don't believe I ever tasted fish any better then what we fried up on that island. ( we were also tired and VERY hungry by the time we made camp )..........And you are correct...those barges stop for NOTHING !!!!!!!.........Don.

Thanks Don.....interestingly enough Back Bay is making a come back after they had completely killed off the grass........I got to fish it back in the 80s when all you did was anchor off a permanent duck blind structure and pluck pound class gills off in numbers........anybody that fished it back then still dream about those days.....I fish the Intracoastal Waterway on some occasions and the barge traffic can be intimidating .......Up in the areas where the canal is narrow it seems the barges will barely fit and let me tell you.....they have the right away and don't stop because they would run aground........anglers beware......

Nice Copper-Nose, I used to fly across the Dismal swamp at lot......I never passed over it that I did not wish I was down there fishing in it. I did fish in Back Bay while I was stationed at Norfolk VA...........Could catch a flounder, then motor over to where a  fresh water creek flowed in and catch LM Bass. I once cleaned a LM Bass that had a crab in his stomach, not something you see every day. I loved camping on one of the Islands in Back Bay......Beautiful place to fish...although, I almost got "swamped" several times when those loaded barges would pass by. Once when the big wave came, it dumped us on the bottom of the creek until the wave passed and the water flowed back in and floated the boat again (fond memories) .............Don

Most people don't venture as far as I do in the Dismal Swamp to fish......I'm fortunate because these fish have very little pressure on them other than a passing Gronaw Grass Shrimp three to four times a week.....LOL
