This is the pond of a very neighbor that I fished the last two days.

That "gap" is a compression zone for predators to herd their prey towards. Thanks for the reply Keith.

I think he intended to put in a footbridge but changed his mind. One end of the small part is shallow and holds lots of baitfish. I've caught a lot of bass in that gap. There are nice BG in there too, the pond is springfed and takes a little longer to warm up.
