Do you love big bluegill?
Yesterday introduced a cold front of significant influence. Upper 40s for lows at night and a 7 deg drop in water temp. To step up my game I decided to go pan fishing anyways. I used to think these were the days you should hang up the rods for a couple days or there is a good chance you will suffer a beating on the water.
The water temp was now in the mid 70 down from the low eighties just days prior. Wind from the wnw at a sustained gusts of 25 mph. I hate fishing in the wind. A quick visual scan of the shallows showed no life. Scanning the drop offs in the deep basins showed schools of fish holding tight to the bottom. A sign of neutral fish activity?. A few stragglers were at the edge of the first break. A few casts with the jig produced 7- 8 in fish. But the bite was light. Drop shotting on the upper edges of the 9ft breakline produced the rest of the fish for a bag of 22 7-8 in fish. Boat control and the feel of the hits were hampered greatly by the wind.
