I agree, definitely a hybrid of some sort. I see gill and seed in this fish, but it could be a a second generation hybrid. Cool fish.

I wouldn't be surprised to learn there was a little Green Sunfish influence mixed in with that P-seed, either.
Whatever it is, it's spent a lot of time going hungry. I think it shows signs of stunting.

I think a true pumpkinseed would be a lot more colorful, even if it were a juvenile/young adult. This fish looks very similar to the bluegill X pumpkinseed hybrids I catch in one of our local lakes. I think it is perhaps a 'pumpkingill'.
But then again, I'm not a biologist...
