My favorite place to fish, there are four ponds here.....one is large. All four have Copper-Head Gills, Bass and Catfish. The ponds are creek fed and I am surprised I have never caught a Jackfish (chain pickerel). Most creek fed ponds have lots of Jackfish. When you drive into Heavenly Ranch, it is down in a ravine with tall trees. Except when you are out on the water, the air temp feels 10 degrees cooler than it does up by the road. The owners keep the mill weed and other bad grasses and plants suppressed and with the exception of floating pine needles the ponds are always easy to fish. They also keep a small boat on each pond if I don't want to cast from the shore it as easy as untie and go. One of the smaller ponds up by the house they call the aquarium .......If you walk around the bank it is easy to see why. The owners like to set out there in the evenings and feed the fish.
( I normally don't fish that pond much ). I fell like those are their pets. I don't go out to Heavenly Ranch real often, I don't want to become a pest or wear out my welcome. But I do fish it several times a year. Years ago I used to work with the owners telephone co. Both husband and wife worked there. The ponds are very old and I believe the original fish stocks were brought up from somewhere in South Florida back in the 50's. I feel very fortunate to have permission to fish there. I have a feeling there may well be a state record Gill lurking in one of those ponds.................Don in SC
