Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

This is a Wild Cherry Bluegill I carved as a birthday gift for my father. It measures approximately 11 inches long. This wood had been air drying for nearly 30 years before I began to carve it. I used a lot of rotary power tools!

Thanks to all for your praise.
I am overwhelmed that a picture of a carved bluegill could garner such attention on a website dedicated to such beautiful examples of the real thing.
My only other real fish carving was to help my dad work on a Largemouth Bass he was carving on commission for a customer. He was working very long hours and I was laid-off so I kind of helped keep the progress going. Dad eventually finished it as I went back to work and didn't have time. I bet if I asked, Dad would have a photo of it when it was completed. He is a founding member (member #1) of the Kansas City Chapter of the National Woodcarvers Association and their official photographer.
You can check out my real passion at www.moseleywoodworks@wordpress.com. My son who is also a bluegill fisherman, woodworker, beginning carver and computer programmer hosts this site to discuss and display (and hopefully take a commission sometime) our creations.
I am nearing retirement and along with my furniture projects, there may be a fish carving or two in my future, we will just have to wait and see.
