Do you love big bluegill?
Wind from the west ...switchin to a N wind around 1:00.Greg and I tried to recreate last years great Pickerel bite at Waywayanda .We were a few weeks off and job necessities called for us to miss last weeks fullmoon phase. We trolled Cranks, threw spoons ,spinnerbaits and swimbaits ...one perch(cb),two lost pickerel(jointed rapala, swimbait) ...Fortunately old John had the secret stash;NCrawlers and after getting nothin on full NC's with an 1/8th oz jig head with a midsize or small bass hook but getting hits ,switched to a 32nd oz jig with small crawler pieces .What I thought were Perch turned out to be aggressive 8-8&1/2 " Bgills and one 7 &1/2 PSeed. We discovered them late in the session but had a good 1 &1/2 hrs. of Gill catchin'. The Kastmaster spoon and the RFSpoon were more effective than the jig but the jig caught the first three.Lesson learned ; Jigs and Spoons!!!,oh and crawlers are a must ! Tried white twisters instead of crawlers...nope! These fish were caught casting to boulders in the shallows while the boat was in 7-10 'Nearby wood cover didn't produce .
