I twisted together some ultra olive chenile with red sparkle chenile. Halfway through wrapping the body around the hook, I added the hackle to finish out the front half of the body. This requires you to wrap (with a whip) the chenile at the halfway point so your thread is available to make the loop of thread needed for adding hackle and tying the hackle in place. Then run the thread to the weight so it is ready to whip finish the body after you complete the run.
I used bigger hooks that are not what I use now. I have fished with several variations and bigger is not better. I had many fish come unbuttoned with bigger hooks. I have downsized hook size and weight of dumbell.
I learned the little I know from the DVD you get with the bass pro kit with Lefty K as the instructor.
Hope that helps.
