Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

Not a soul in sight today, at Lick Fork. A far cry from summers howling throng.

I visit an honor system lake, too, Vince.
Something like that is indeed hard to find.

Neat picture, David. It reminds me of the little lake I sometimes fish near here. It is one that costs 1.00 to fish and if you get there real early in the morning or late at night, the man has a mason jar on his front porch to put your money in. It's all on the honor system, and it doesn't get a lot of pressure as the water is real clear, and the fish are kinda spooky. Little gems like these are getting harder to find.

Its an old CCC project, this one. Off the beaten path, it doesn't suffer a lot of angling pressure and its very picturesque. Jim Gronaw speaks lovingly of these little known gems... I'm sure he'd appreciate it. This pic was captured the last time I'll probably be there, as I've moved a long way from it. Its name is also picture perfect: "Lick Fork Lake."

Yeah if you could puddle around with a fish finder you might hit on there hiding places. This little lake is only 12 acres... Maybe not hard to find them.

@ John - Thanks. Im pretty much thinking like you are. Setting the stage for todays bad luck was a WHOPPER of a cold front passing through yesterday. All things together, I anticipated a day fishing - with not so much catching.

Here in SC we don't have screaming cold or ice over the winter season, but the fish still go deep and hunker up.

During the off season, die hard Dixie fishermen go deep - mostly for catfish, striper and schools of suspended pan fish, in that order. This is where a boat and depth finder on the larger waters comes into it's own. For most of us down South, pond fishing like at Lick Fork Lake is pretty iffy 'til spring.

Nice Pics! Dropped a few casts in from shore today but it was fruitless. The nights are cold and the days not warm enough for the fish to visit the shallows .It's boat weather till ice up I'm thinkin'.

This was one of those "gotta go" trips. I didn't expect much, to be honest. We also hit Clarks Hill Reservoir (Strom Thurmond) with little better success.

Fishing with a good friend will have to be enough this day. This is the one guy that showed up to help me move the last time - the one and ONLY guy who showed.  When fishing with a man like that, catching fish is icing on the cake.

It started pretty cold here this morning, 35 degrees! I can't go this weekend but I'm working some things for Thanksgiving weekend as it looks like I will still be in South Carolina...Sometimes you just need to get out regardless of the results!!! Good looking little lake though...
