Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

My buddies went up to the Sierra's this past weekend and he was told that this was a perch. I seriously doubt it's a perch but i can't seem to figure out what species this is. ANY HELP

It looks like what we call a Sucker. The mouth turns down just like the ones around here in SC.

Yellow perch are known to be present in Crowley and a few other lakes in California (if I ever go to Crowley I'll ignore the trout and fish for perch :) but the fins and tail on that fish, and even the shape of the head, look wrong for a yellow perch to me. It's not a Sacramento perch, either. The mouth looks like some kind of rough fish to me...

I don't think it's a yellow perch for 3 reasons: 1. No dorsel spines. 2. Like you said no bars or yellow ( fish is brown) 3. Look at the mouth it's a small sucker type mouth

It is kinda hard to see the colors, but it looks like a yellow perch to me.  Does it have bars(stripes) running from it's back to it's belly? Sometimes they are more pronounced than on others. A lot depends on genetics, and water color. What did you catch it on?
