Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

My Granddaughter Emma who is 3 and loves to catch bluegill but doesn't want to kiss them. I told her Jimmy Huston always kisses the fish but she didn't know Jimmy.

Thank you Mike....They are .....and that is why bluegills are the best fish for beginners. If you are any kind of a fisherman ( person) then you can find some bluegills in just about any pond or lake across america . Kids can catch one after the other and they love to put them back and see them swim away and when they happen to land in the bottom of the boat, they go "crazy"!!!! Emma is always getting out her fishing gear wondering when Poppy will be there to go fishing with her. I have an internet version of the pic, which I will post later and you can get more detail. Meantime, every time I take a kid (any kid) out fishing. I remember my first real fishing trip. My dad was a commercial fisherman in Bayminette Alabama, on the gulf coast. We were always around the water, but fishing was work. When I was about 7 and my brother was 5, my uncle Monroe promised to take us fishing. We spent a whole week looking for crickets under logs, in the grass, etc... the big black ones. No one sold them then. The anticipation was the thing. We went out in a cypress skiff in Bayminette Creek and I will to my dying day remember the first time I caught a big red breasted bluegill. I can see it if I just close my eyes. My uncle also used a popping bug that day .. didn't have a flyrod, just a long cane pole with a 50 pound test cat gut line. That is why I never miss a chance to take a kid fishing and I always try to find some bluegills so they wont get bored. I have since traveled the world and been a very very lucky fellow. You will never find me with my flyrod and a few black floating spiders in my car
