I've only ice fished a handful of times since I was teenager and then many times with my Dad... Expect this personal best ice fishing 8in class to fall short many times this ice season

Jim that's what I heard so I kept it... I have a feeling it's going to be a long ice fishing season here in mid Michigan. plenty of time to get used to it!

Everyone Ive talked to loves the strait-line reel, once they get used to the feel and mechanics of them.

We've got safe ice finally, but I'm laid up.

They are smokin' the jumbos and eater walleyes at Deep Creek.

That's actually one of the things I like the most about my inlines. I find it very quick to drop back down the hole. I hit the freespool button, and drag a finger against the spool while I'm pulling line off with the other hand. My reels will freewheel if I'm using tungsten, but like a baitcaster, they will overrun the line and birds nest if allowed to drop on their own accord. I can adjust the free spool tension, but prefer to simply drag my finger, as it gives infinite, instant control.

I fish in depths of around 22' max.

thanks Jeff!

thanks Tony ... sorry to hear about your ice... i was getting frustrated pulling thin mono off the reel to get down to depths greater than 10 ft. how deep do you fish this type of reel? well i decided to keep it even though i dont have the hang of it as of now... maybe a little practice. i know the value of this type of reel keeping the line straight etc... and i do like the feel of it in my hand when fishing. right now its on my fixed float ice rod until i get the hang of it.

There we go....that's what I'm talking about! Glad to see you on the ice and catching fish. My waters opened up today.

I read where you didn't like the inline reel? I'm surprised, as I won't have anything else on my ice rods these days.
