Thanks Mike.....this fishery is wide open right now on local rivers........I fished a different river yesterday after work checking some good bluegill spots but it's still a bit early for those species so I settled for a 50 Crappie event off of one old bulkhead.......It had 8 pilings about six feet apart sitting in four feet of water, couple that with a falling wind tide as winds laid down late in the day......a major feed started late and I had a blast.......I'm slowing down on the Crappie pics as the bluegill photos have started and should continue to roll in.....

Thanks Carl and Tooty.......if the crappie bite is any indication of how 2014 will go we're in for something special on the Albemarle......traditionally the fishing is great after our coldest winters.......The crappie bite started shallow right on time with the dogwood trees blooming and the bluegill transition should be in full swing by Easter or simultaneous to the Pecan Trees Budding.......March is the second best Crappie month in this region producing staging fish early in the month and early spawners later in the month.....I caught 778 tidal Black Crappie this March on 19 fishing trips.....April can easily become a 1,000 fish month for Crappie with the peak of spawning during the "pink" moon this month.......I become consumed with the arriving gills in the weeks ahead and don't always take advantage of the entire crappie bite.....Coppernose bluegill remain my favorite fish to hunt and catch and I have that fever again that outdoorsmen refer too before the beginning of their respective season...

Nice fish. Be glad when I get in from offshore. I'm ready. Hopefully there will still be a few crappie on the beds.
