20150503-KERSWILL LAKE highlighting the bait dropper rig with Gulp Maggots

20150503- had a good day on the water!. Water temp jumped up to 65 degs almost thru out the lake. Bluegills and panfish in general were in the shallows less than 3 FOW. Crappies were a bit deeper and spawning spotted a few on some nest clearings so I left them alone and concentrated shallow. Sun was bright and strong near eighty degrees warmest day of the year…. Strong variable winds were tough to deal with found some productive spots in sheltered areas. Algae build up was tremendous in just a few days. Golden shiners were spawning alongside the algae and I tagged a few heavy females … these things are tanks in this lake. Caught a 12” plusser late last fall

Started out with the slip bobber and was somewhat productive nailing many smaller fish and a jumbo 91 percentile p’seed … then hooked up the crank bait with a chain dropper tipped with the pink Gulp Maggot… unbelievable action one fish after another … a perfect solution for a very shallow presentation. I also hooked up with another 90 percentile M.A. 8.1” p’seed on the crank bait/dropper/pink gulp combo… awesome…

Everything caught today was tagged with a fresh bottle of Pink Gulp Maggots either on slip bobber or the bait dropper rig.

whats really nice about this chain dropper rig... catches fish ...casts easily... and rarely gets tangled

thanks Jim... we fished off the dock a t a public launch last year with my grandsons... they had a blast with this setup.

i really was disappointed the yo zuri pin minnow wouldn't sit up in the water better... was tough to utilize as a bobber when sitting ... the Rapala sits up higher and you can detect strikes better when sitting. the gills and p'seeds really slammed it when i used it like a bass jerk bait and could easily detect the strikes. it just plain makes the gills mean and they actually swarm and fight over it.

i used the chain dropper off the smelt stik. this was one of my top producers last year for quality and quantity of panfish caught last summer last year.

If I did not see it in your photos I would swear that the 'chain' dropper would not work...shame on me!

I have done well at times with the small crank bait and wet fly dropper as the 'tail gunner' rig on picky gills. Good job!

slip bobber with Pink Gulp Maggots and the mini bait dropper rig accounted for the bulk of the panfish catching.
