100% green sunfish.  (In my opinion - have caught thousands of them...)

i assumed it was just another bizarre warmouth variation.gotta take more pics when i am out.drowning phones gets expensive tho

To me, this fish epitomizes the classic Green Sunfish. But as is the case with sunfish, who can be sure that there's not something else in the mix?

Comment by jim cosgrove on February 10, 2014 at 7:23pm

thanks tony.a natural hybrid ?his body was more elongated than sunfish

Comment by Tony Livingston on February 10, 2014 at 6:44pm

See the prominent black spot at the base of the dorsal fin? That's a Bluegill or Green Sunfish trait only.

warmouths around her go from light to almost black depending on the water color.this is called rock creek and is just that.kind of a little canyon thru here

Comment by jim cosgrove on February 10, 2014 at 6:35pm

i think its a green warmouth mix.also a lot of rock bass in this creek and the river system it feeds.fought like a warmouth, has that larger mouth.the sunfish seem to inter breed a lot around here

Greenie.

Comment by mike martinez on February 10, 2014 at 4:09pm

Looks like a greenie to me.This is a  hybrid greenie.

Comment by John Sheehan on February 10, 2014 at 3:47pm

So that's a warmouth and not a green Sunfish ? Thought it had a big mouth even for a Greenie ! What's the verdict ?Second opinion? Thanks for your comment Donald.
