Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

This was my very first sheephead I have ever caught! I have no idea what it's weight was. It was extremely fun on 5lb power pro line and 5'-6" light action rod!

I bet the otoliths in this one were the size of quarters if not half dollars.

I used to keep them as a kid and still have my collection.

Not too sure my daughters find them as fascinating as I did.

That's such a great fish. The thing we always say about them is that they're cool because they'll take a lure, and they're pretty scrappy. This particular specimen appears to have a bronzer color than the ones we catch here, which are mostly silver colored. Awesome fish, nonetheless. When we were kids we would remove the otoliths, and call them "Indian Pearls".

They're not sheephead, they're sheepshead. The freshwater species and the salwater species are nothing alike, like most similar-named fish from salt to fresh...

Hey Jacob! That is a freshwater drum or known as a freshwater sheephead. I'm jealous of the saltwater fun you can do!!

They are not bad to eat, but I prefer the small ones for that.

I would however love to get into a mess of ones that size, my daughter wood go nuts catching them.
