Good lookin redear!
Greg...on top of my head is my PA fishing license that is in a plastic holder, clipped on the back of my cap, and flipped over due to the wind.
Bill...I'll try it, though these fish are terribly skittish.
Troy...I have seen redears in the past do that exact thing nosing down on baits and picking them up so quickly and lightly. You guys are right...it's a visual thing and the hookset has to be instant. I just gotta get a different bait...something that moves better than a warmed up, lethargic nightcrawler in this 100 degree heat. Might do an evening or a morning gig.
Jim, I delivered the spoon vertically into the center of the bed and simply quivered it....can't really call it a presentation....the reds would eventually storm in and attempt to move the lure from the bed....big mistake on their part....reaction time is short and must be a visual one in order to hook up.
BEAUTIFUL FISH, JIM!!!!!!!!!!!!!! PERSONAL BEST WAY TO GO!!!!!
What is that on top of you head?????? Besides the HAT I mean!!!!!!
AWESOME fish Jim, that thing looks to be pushing 1.5lbs or better...trophy fish. And you say there were bigger ones that wouldn't bite?? I'd be back in there pronto, put a wiggler (redworm) right in front of their face and hit them on the head with. They will eventually succumb to the pressures and gently nose down on it and put it in their mouths, set the hook and get ready for battle. You just might be addicted to the redears now.
thats a great looking fish,no scars at all jus plain nice!!!
Really resplendent Redear..........
Bill...could you explain how to work the spoon option through the beds when the fish are extremely spooky to just about any and all movement? I just put a blog up on this dilema so any help is good...
....I've experienced the same struggle.....until I dropped a crawler tipped spoon into the bed.....Nice red!
Bruce, I actually really struggled today as I worked on two spawning shellcrackers that would just not take anything I threw at them, and they were both bigger than this male here! Got big gills and a gillcracker and bass, but no other redears. I'll put up a blog .
Thanks!
