Do you love big bluegill?
Look at the bend in Gage's ultralight... alas, the end result was the same as his little brother's. broke him off after a few minutes...
Our Channel Catfish are getting big on a steady diet of Aquamax... time to invest in bigger gear if this keeps up!

Those serrated pectoral fins on the catties can put a quick end to a light tackle cattie brawl.
A number of years ago we caught some 30-inch class channel cats on, of all things, Jitterbugs fished slowly near the shore in the pre-dawn darkness. Crazy, explosive heart-stopping strikes! Just a thought...
Yep, I knew better... I've landed big fish on ultralight tackle, but I have more experience than they do. I will say that they did great, all I did was offer encouragement. In the end, their gear just wasn't up to the task, no fault of their own. I'm proud of both of them!
The pond I am fishing tomorrow has 15 pounders in it and I am debating trying for them with comparable gear. My friend got an 8 lber on 2 pound test line...a little risky!
So true Jeffrey, the boys and I had a ball. I never wet a line, instead I watched and helped them set up. They're really turning into dedicated anglers on ther own, and I'm grateful for the time we spend fishing together. This wasn't their first catfishing trip, but it was their first experience with big catfish on ultralight tackle. Like their dad, they spend most of their time pursuing big Bluegills. After tonight, it may be time to make room for another species!
For tomorrow though, it's Bluegills!
Looks like you guys have some horses in there Tony.....At least the family got out together and had some excitement!
