Thanks, Jen! Chris, this one is fiberglass. There has been a pretty significant revival of interest in fiberglass among fly rodders in recent years; they tend to be easier to cast, easier to feel the loading on the backcast than graphite. There's even a forum dedicated to fiberglass fly rods, fiberglassflyrodders.com.
Ah nice, is it fiberglass or graphite?
Beautiful work! My dad was a master woodworker among other things so I really appreciate wood!
It's a 5-weight, Chris. Should be pretty good for popping bugs and sponge-rubber spiders.
And I'll have to second what Bruce said.
Oh wow this is INCREDIBLE Walt!! What weight is it?
Thanks, Tony! I was blessed to be able to make it for you.
I don't have a fly rod from Walt, but I have one of his custom spinning rods built on a flyrod blank...and I can attest to its sensitivity, and its ability to put a miniscule jig, or popper out further than any off the shelf rod I own. Walt was willing to take my idea of a rod fabricated primarily for slow fall presentations, and make it a reality. It's an absolute blast to tie into a big BG with it.
Thanks, Bruce, I'm honored!
Probably the best I've ever seen in my life.
