Hey Bruce, I think you and Jim are right on with your ID of this fish as a P-Seed/Longear Sunfish Hybrid Mix!!! Thanks for your help with the identification of it!!!

I agree with Jim that it could be a longear mix of some type. I've never seen any fish quite like it. Very unique.

Hi Bruce and Jim, I'm not sure it is purebred Pumpkinseed as it was caught out of a large public reservoir in Upstate New York and it does appear to have characteristics of different fish like both of you commented on!! Does anybody else have any ideas on what type of hybrid it might be???

That's a great fish, but are you sure it was a pumpkinseed? It looks like it's got another lepomid gene present. Anybody else thing so?

Great fish Warrior! Could it possibly be a hybrid between a long-eared sunfish and a pumpkinseed? I do not see the red edge on the gillflap that is characteristic of the 'seeds, yet it does possess the wavey blue markings on the lower cheek and mouth area. What ever it is, it is a stunning fish!
